No, not the pcb. I mean the plate on which the text is written. It's usually made out of metal. I am just wondering how you're going to produce it

I not speak spanish... so i not know if Carlos explane this already in the video.....

I think you mean the Front Panel that is shown for example in First Video at Min. 15.30 .

Basicly this Panels are build with Acryl-Glass (Plexiglas) Mostly in MILK Optic ( Not CLEAR 30-50% Light resistance)
If you use CLEAR Glas you can´t see the Text in Daytime and only if Light is ON..... With Milkglas ( Hope thats the english term) you see the text better.

This Panels can be orderd in onlineshops. For B737 or A320 100%... I´m pretty shure its available for Cessna, too.
Problem is... This is verry expensiv and not individual.... So you have to work with the messerusation of this elements !

Alternate you can design your own panels with CAD Software ( Here you can use dimensions like you prefere).... And then you send it to a Internet Factory they produce it for you.
Again verry expensiv and here you only can choose from some limited Materials and colors.

The Best way is if you have acces to a CNC Machine or much better a LASER CUTTER . There you can use the Material you like.... You can Paint it youreself and the guys can do exactly what you like.
Problem here.... You need to find a guy like this ! Buy a Machine costs thousends of Dollars....
In Germany some Universitys or Big factorys with a own edjucation center for studies have so stuff and you can rent it for money/Hours.

Hi friend:

It's like Pizman82 says.

The material is 4mm methacrylate (Acryl-Glass (Plexiglas))

The project is 4 layers of methacrylate:
1nd Layer: White opal methacrylate 4mm, painted black and engraved with laser to leave the engraving white on black.
2nd Layer: Transparent methacrylate 2mm. It is only a semi-transparent layer to give room to the encoder nuts and the like.
3rd Layer: Transparent methacrylate 2mm. In the PCB is mounted and some other components as encoders, rotary, push buttons, etc.
4th Layer: 3mm transparent methacrylate. In this layer is mounted two arduino mega, a power supply, and other components.

Everything is designed with the Aspire 8.5 program (a special cad-cam program for cnc designs).

The pieces are all cut with laser cnc, and the cover, is something more special.

First, I made the interior cuts, then painted them in matt black, then I made the engraving in such a way that it removes the black paint and stays with the white background, and finally it is varnished.

I put photos of everything.

This is the methacrylate white opal (good for backlight)

Assembly and configuration first steps of the project (tutorial 2 and 3)


The cost is not expensive.
The 4mm white opal methacrylate costs about 7 euros, 400x300mm
The transparent 3mm methacrylate costs about 5.50 euros, 400x300 mm
The transparent 2mm methacrylate costs about 4.50 euros, 400x300 mm
Paint black Spray 12 euros
Varnish Spray 6 euros

If you do not have to cut a laser cnc, you can look for companies that cut methacrylate, personally or online. The cost is usually around € 30 each plate.

You can also look for companies, which give service by renting cnc laser on your installation, for about € 15 an hour, and do it yourself.

If you are doing panels of the radio panel cessna 172 or 182, I can facilitate you the .dxf files and with them look for the most economic way.

Clarification:
The design of the PCBs has been made with PROTEUS 8 PROFESSIONAL.
The design, cutting and engraving of the cover and other layers on methacrylate has been made with ASPIRE 8.5

About cnc laser machine:

I have ordered one in China, ELECKMAKER A3 PRO:

Working space approx. 30x40 cm
I ordered it without laser module, and I bought one of 15 W.
The cost of the machine is 140.42 €
And the laser module is 220 € approx.

when I receive it, I will change two larger v-rail 20x40 for a length of 70 cm, and the workspace will change to approx 40x65 cm. for a cost of about 25 € more.

With these watts, you can cut plastic, wood, etc. less metal and engrave plastics, wood, metal, etc.

Hello Carlos,

Thanks for your tutorial. I tried some time to make the same as you and Iam was wondering were did you got the PCB with the 5digits ssd. Is this a costume made one? I like to get the dimensions smaller and stick more to the real thing (width 16cm I think 17cm is possible) Do you have any advice how to make the PCB?

I designed my pcb's with the Proteus program.

On youtube you have numerous links for the installation of the program, and also use tutorials.

I had no experience in the design of pcb but with the tutorials of youtube I have been able to design it without problems.

I have ordered the prototypes in China, because they were much cheaper (I can pass the link and for whom you have to ask indicating that I send you and they will treat you well and very cheaply).

They are 20 cm wide, but logically they can be made in 17 cm. It would not be a problem.

The 5-digit LEDs I bought here:

And the electronic components (max7219, socket for max719 two capacitors and a resistance and standard pins turned) for each module, I bought them in a local store, but can be bought cheap on ebay or on aliexpress.

I can also send you the .aspire files and modify it if you want so that you can adapt it to your needs.

Or I could also modify my design according to your needs and send it designed, but this way is more complicated because of the distance and the different language, but if you want we can try it.
