I have a Saitek radio stack that has issues. One of the digits on the top right does not light up. I’ve troubleshot it to the chip itself but cannot access the chip with it buried in epoxy. All of the other components work fine.

Since the bottom half of the radio works without issue, I’m thinking about using MobiFlight and a Arduino board to make a new top half of the existing radio. I can use the same case and components but substitute their chip with an Arduino on the top half only. (I read somewhere that an Arduino 2560 Mega Pro will, only handle 2 LED strips? 6 digit, 7 segment display). I want to set it up so that all of the functions are the same. (Basically I’m duplicating the Saitek radio in every way).

It’s either do it this way or use two Arduino boards to get the 4 led displays. (IF what I read was true)

Anyone out there make a functional radio stack using MF and Arduino? If so, any guidance or help would be appreciated.

MF not controll LED Displays..... MF just is compatible to the LED Driver "MAX7219"

The "number" is not the Problem.... You can controll with MF endless 7Seg Systems. On One MEGA there is a limit of 4 Devices with 8 Chips each.
so 4x8=32 Max7219 Chips.... Each chip can handle 8 Diggits.... so 32x8=256 Diggits.

If you like to rework you need to know if this panel also use Max7219 Chips.... If Yes you can simply wire them to the Mega .... As i said Not Two... Up to 32 are no problem.

If the Board use a other chip then you need to wire the Displays itself to a MaxChip that is finally wired to a Arduino.
Good Luck !
