Hello from a soon-to-be new user.

I see that currently the Arduino Mega and the Sparkfun Pro Micro are supported computer modules. Has anyone had any success with a USB-C based computer? Ideally I would like to have my board with one connection rather than both USB and power.

Also, has anyone compiled a list of recommended IO for MobiFlight? I read the tutorials and read the forum projects, and I see buttons, switches, segmented displays, encoders, and servos. Ideally, I'd like to see a big list of various parts, and be able to build my project from what others have used. I'd also like to see any small cheap LCD panels that have been used.

Thanks for any comments or pointers.

The Arduino Mega can power itself over USB just fine, both of my configs are running with just USB power and nothing else.

As far as parts go basically any LED, switch, button, servo, etc. will work. They are all basic devices that may come in different shapes and sizes, but if you stick to things that are cheap and plentiful you should be fine. The parts are cheap and plentiful for a reason: people use them all the time and they work.

For LCD panels just look for ones on Amazon. If you see it purchased a ton of times and people talking about using it with an Arduino it'll probably work with MobiFlight.

Also search the forums to see what parts people are using. That's what I did to figure out what LCDs to use.

Hi

There is no list. Cause MF Users work all around the world. E.g. in Argentinia they have no access to China Imports. So all the parts we use in Europe will not be available there.

Basicly:
LED all single LED will work. Not use RGB. Just single LED and use the needed resistors.
Button: All will work
Swtiches: All will work. ON/ON or ON/ON/ON have some benefits..... But are not directly required.
Encoder: Simple 2 Channel 2 Bit Code will work fine. I recommend to NOT use KY40 with a Power device. Use simple 3 Pin Encoders.
7SEG : MAX7219 Based Displays ONLY !!!! No other chip is supported !
14Seg Not supported a.t.m.
Servo: All Analog Standard Servos 5v based
Stepper: All based on ULN2003 Controllers.
LCD : IC2 controlled LCD´s up to 4 lines ( I recommend to use LCD with custom Adresses.... If you like to use more then 1 LCD on a board)

About USB:
To avoid power to Mega as a additional wire we use mostly USB HUBS with a external Power suply. Mean the Megas still get all the power via USB...... But not need the Computer suply.... The Hubs support 500mA directly to each port.
USB C is technical no matter. Those MEgas still work with 20 Year old USB1.0 . In case those ports are downcompatible ( as i know) you can use all USB Ports same way !
Good Luck !
