Is there a guide or list anywhere that outlines which pins on the Arduino are appropriate for the various types of devices? Some of the pins are analog, some are digital, some support PWM, etc. Does it matter at all or can any device be plugged into any numbered pin?

Thanks!

Most information is written in the Tutorial, the FAQ and in the Patch Notes.

In short words.....

Digital Pin 0 and pin 1 are NOT functional.
Digital Pins 02-53 are fully compatible.
From Version 7.8 upwards.... So also in current UpToDate Version 7.10.0 also Analog Pins 0-15 are useable.

All Digital Pins support all typs of devices. The analog Pins support garantee Buttons and pretty sure also LED. Normaly they should also support Motors or Displays. But here i not test it myself.

The LCD Display ( e.g. 16x2) are supported via IC2. here the needed Pins are Digital 20/21

NOTE: Each Device Typ got a own Limit ( Check the FAQ) . For example there is a Maximum of 40 LED per board. But sure you can use the other pins for other devices.
Good Luck !

Wonderful, thank you for the prompt and detailed reply! Super helpful as I work on my PCB design and decide what things to map to the header pins for the Arduino.
