Just a quick question.
Is there a limit to the number of encoders I can run from 1 MEGA?

I have 6 installed in a 737 mcp panel but only 5 seem to be working..... board not even flashing when encoder is turned..... would I need to supply power, more than the USB provides?

Hi...
Please check out the FAQ next time.

Encoder Limit for ONE Mega Board is 20 ! ( 40 Pins in use)

Power suply should not be a problem.... A Encoder ( same like buttons) is a Input and need no signeficant power. But you must get shure your encoders are correctly set to the common GRD of the Arduino you use for the Controlling Pins.

Solution:
In the past we got some Issue Reports about not working Inputs ! Please check if your Device Settings are correct . Also get shure your Device Names are not to long ( and maby not include special signs ....for example $%&/-_.:,; ) .
We not exactly know the problematic point..... But we know device names with less then 6 Numbers and without symbols work correct all time. So name your Encoders for exampel "ABC123"

Additional Note.... This problem NOT must occure in the wrong named device all the time.... If you for example name Encoder #5 with a problematic long name then it can happen that THIS Encoder work fine already BUT a other Encoder with a correctly short name is broke now.....
Summary.... Get Shure ALL DEVICES on that board got Short and clear Names !( Outputs, too)
Good Luck !

Hi,

so far as I know there is no limit (only the pin limit of the mega) for encoders.

I myself use 8 encoders on one board with no problems at all.

So you should look for an error in your wirring or configuration. If the board LED is flashing is this an indicator for a working encoder.
Did you activate the logging feature of Mobiflight? If not, activate it via EXTRAS - SETTINGS. So you can see on every event, what MF is recognizing.

Normaly you did not need an extra power supply for a MEGA unless you have one or more steppers installed.
You can operate a MEGA up to 500 mA if you work with a hub but this is a physical limit. in fact, you should keep the burden lower.
