Hello everyone.

I am building a pedestal panel by using arduino and mobiflight. When I constructing it, I want to get as real as possibe, thus I decided to build it with the real dimensions taken from THY fleet.

To build it I am gonna use E-37 dual rotary encoders. Nevertheless, the problem is pulse/detent.
Do I have to by it 16/16, because the others 32/16 or 16/8 are not supported by arduino ? I mean does it have to be 1:1 still ?

Thanks
Best Regards

Hi,

in the moment, the encoder are evaluated as they are, but there is something in the pipeline to get an exact evaluation.

So you need not the 1:1 encoders, but your value will be evaluated in their relation (1:1, 1:2 etc).

If you buy a 16/16 that is not a mistake. This relation works always ok. 32/16 or 16/8 also will work, but you will get a change only every 2 detents.

Thanks your reply Stephan.

So it had better buy a 16/16 ones to avoid twice rotation on the knob for just one increment on the frequency of navigation and com panel.

I choosed 16 detent since the real aircraft has nearly the same rotational steps (10-12) on their panels.

The other issue is that for every panel, I have to use 2 arduino cards, even for overhead 1 more. Thus, is there any way extending the pins by using pokeys card or something like that (like arcaze) ? Because when I build the cockpit completely, I would have used totally 7 arduino mega cards :).

Regards.

Hi Firat,

I think it is not required to extend the pins of a MEGA. Here you can use 50 pins (max 40 for LEDs). If you look at the price of a MEGA (< 10€) then this is unbeatable.
If you need an analog controller buy a cheap one from ebay, That's enough.

Some guys here have cockpits with 30-50 Arduino Cards ! Thats no Problem. Mobiflight have no Limit for number of arduinos ( Just Windows ... I think its 128 but that you will NEVER reach)

Finaly as Stephan said.... A Arcaze or other Controller cost much more money.... You can Buy 5 Arduino Mega for the price of 1 Arcaze.
Good Luck !
