Encoders shutting down mobiflight when rotating

This is happening on the latest version of mobi.
I've built a new mcp with all new components the wiring is correct.
But when I operate an encoder in debug mode it shuts down mobiflight instantly.
So I decided to go back a few versions just to see if it had something to do with this new latest version and all encoders started to work.
Has anyone else had this experience.

Thanks.

Hi,

it is absolutely unusual that an encoder shuts down MF.
Do you have external power connected to the encoder? External Power and external resistors are not necessary because MF activates the MEGA-internal pull-up-resistors.
How does MF restart? If you turn the encoder does the led on the mega-board went off or does it keep on? If the LED went off you shortcut the voltage of the mega. Then try to use the encoder without the external resistors and power. What happens then?

Hi

Please discribe a liitle more detail what you mean with "shutting down mobiflight"

Is there a error warning? Does MF also stop in device manager ?
What happen if you enable Logging Mode ..... Check the last Log File after the crash what is the last line there ??

I expect....
With MF 9.6 we implement the Decimal Reading Logic.
A Old Config that was build before maybe struggle there....
E.g. if you try to send a Value to the Sim where only Integers are allowed but your system now (by fault) create a Float.

So find out:

1. Is there a logging information.
2. Build a new Config for testing and use for a Encoder only two "Key Send" Commands.
You not need the Sim..... Only open e.g. Word and click the Curser. Run MF and turn encoder.
IT should write AAAAAA BBBBBB for example.

If this basic test work we know its pretty sure the config logic.... If this also crash MF there is a deeper issue.
Good Luck !

Hi,

I have encountered same problem.

I just started building my instruments panel and started with fresh setup with MB version 9.6.0 When it runs in offline mode encoder works without a problem. I can see proper inputs in normal and fast mode.

Then when I start FSX-SE connected via FSUIPC4 and MB crashes after I rotate the encoder. Sometimes it crashes at the first input and sometimes after a while. MobileFlight just closes without any warning.

The log has no indication why, no errors logged. I also checked the FSUIPC4 log and there is also no hints there.

I was using FSUIPC offser 0x07CC – Autopilot heading value but also tried other functions with similar or worse result.
When I found this thread I have tried the "Key Send" Commands and it works properly.

I couldn’t find earlier version of mobiflight so this solution was not testes.

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for reply.

Basically i think we talk not about a Encoder Problem.

With 9.6.0 we got a confirmed bug with "Decimal Values".
Specially Heading via FSUIPC can be effected by this bug.... Or better all FSUIPC Offset Inputs that use Formulas.

In short words.... Prior 9.6. Mobiflight internal only handle Integer Values .... With 9.6 MF also handle Float Values.
If the value you send is a result of a formula like e.g. 10/4 .... then in the past MF send 2 .... Now it send 2,5
Badly FSUIPC get in trouble if we try to send Floats to a integer. And also some Outputs are effected.

We apollogy for that.... We test only in FS2020 and here those situations are pretty rare so we not see it in BETA Phase.

************
Whatever.... Expect a Fix in next version or Beta....
Until then.... Use Round commands in the formulas where Floats can happen OR as you say use EventID or KeyEmulation instead.
Good Luck !
