hi im trying to get 7 x 7 segment 8 digit displays to work on msfs 2020 i have daisy chained 4 in 1 set and 3 in another
i have linked all din pins together all cs pins together all clk pins together in each set
vcc and gnd are all seperated individually to 5 volts and ground on arduino so not linked to each other through chain
when connected up to usb on pc all displays light up with 0s on all digits
i configure all displays to mobiflight and all display as they should matching up with sim
i press run on mobiflight connector and only 1st and last displays come on and match up with the sim
how can i get all to come on together have been trying for hours now with no success
any help with what i am doing wrong would be very much appreciated

You can daisy chain max7219 modules , but do not daisy chain Vcc . Voltage will drop sinigficantly after the 3rd 4th module . Instead connect all Vcc to 5v or bypass the diodes of modules .

Hi

You already confirm you use no chain for 5V .
GRD can be done by chain just 5V should be given parallel. ( Or you have to remove the diode)

About Problem.
This can have different issues.
Basically your setup is OK. You could also chain the whole 7 Displays together if you like.
MF support usage of up to 8 Displays in a single row!

So problem at the end can be the follow....

1. Electrical problem!
Max Chips are very sensible. Just a little touch can kill the setup and a restart is needed.
So its high recommend to solder all connections. Jumper wires will not work.
Also every solder spot must be 100% fine!

2. Power Problem
If Max also have LED and other power consuming stuff maybe your overshoot the limits. Also Max chips need a medium amount of power.
You can easy make a try and support the MAX-5v NOT via Arduino. Use a external 5v Power supply with ~~1000mA.
Not forget to combine the GRD of MAX, Power Supply and Arduino together ! All Elements in your cockpit must share the same GRD potential !

3. Device Setup Issue
Confirm your settings in the "Mobiflight Modules" Page are correct.
So you have used the right Pins AND you choose for correct length of Chain (NUM)

4. Correct Device usage in Config.
Confirm you choose for the Right Display and NUM setting in the Configs !
You can test this with the TEST Button in Display Tab. By use this the selected diggits on the selected Display will show 12345678

5. Sim Data failed.
Confirm the Configs also work. For sure if a Data Source is empty (wrong Preset) there is no data to show !
So check if there is a red "!" next to config that report a issue.... And check the "Sim Value and Output Value" Collumns if there is Data!

At last:

There we can talk for free and solve those things vias Voice Chat !
Good Luck !
