I got a cheap encoder without any documentation, without any identification. According to the supplier, it is a S2H24118A. It is mounted on a tiny board with two 10k resistors and five pins: GND, +, SW, DT and CLK. I have attached all pins, except SW, to the MobiFlight Mega. No matter what I do, this encoder only invokes the OnRight event (visible from the log in the MobiFlight configuration screen). Swapping DT and CLK doesn't change anything.

Might this be a compatibility issue? Or should I have downloaded and installed some add-on library first? I have checked my wiring three times over. What else could possibly be wrong?

Gratefully expecting some help! Han Schouten - Margraten - The Netherlands

Hi Han,

you have some kind of special board that supports a serial protocol.
Can you provide the datasheet or some type number?
Have a great day!
Sebastian

Hello Sebastian,

As so often, the problem is in properly connecting things. In this case, I have pinned the encoder straight onto the breadboard and that has caused the problem: pins just a little too short and too thin, resulting in bad contact. Connecting the encoder directly to the Mega with male to female wires solves the problem. Marvelous, it is really working!

On to my next challenge: using the built-in push button of the encoder to toggle between altitude preset and vertical speed preset. I haven't the faintest idea of how to achieve this. First, I will have a look into the precondition tab of the configuration screen. I have never used this before. Any hint into the direction of a solution is of course welcome.

Greetings,
