I've been successful using an Arduino Mega 2560 board for a module and want to use a lower cost option. I've been trying to get the Bluno MEGA board to work but I can't get the firmware to update. The board is recognized as a new, unconfigured module but when I try to update the firmware, I get this error

avrdude timed out! Something went wrong when flashing with command "Arduino\hardware\tools\avr\bin\avrdude" -C "Arduino\hardware\tools\avr\etc\avrdude.conf" -patmega2560 -cwing -P\\.\COM8 -b115200 -D -Uflash:w:"C:\downloads\firmware\mobiflight"

This board has a different firmware upload sequence than the Arduino MEGA 2560 board in that you need to press the BOOT button while powering to put it in a flash mode. I've tried doing that (in addition to not doing it).

I'm hoping someone has worked this out or asking that MobiFlight address this in a documentation or software update.

BHi

I have no experience with that board.... But basically MF supports most of Arduino Clones.

I expect there are 2 possible issue spots.

1. Missing Drivers.
E.g. Mega Clones with a CH340 Chip need different drivers like the Original Megas. Get sure you have correct Drivers !
(The reason for issues in 95% of cases)

2. Missing VID/PID
MF detect boards by scan there VID-PID
If the used board use a new Flag we not already include in MF Lists then the Board is not detected by MF.
So please also confirm what VID/PID is used. ( Device Mannager)

EDIT:
Not reason for your problem.... But a fact....
I see in your link that you have MF installed directly in your download folder.
Thats not recommned!
Move MF Installer file into a own directory ( e.g. c:/Mobi ) and run it there.
Handle MF e.g. on Desktop or in /downloads or in /Program Files can occur in problems in case of windows write protection within puplic and system folders.
Good Luck !

I changed your username to john.t...

Maybe you can try to upload the mobiflight firmware (hex file) via xloader?
Have a great day!

This board has a CC2540 Bluetooth chip on board, connected to RX0 and RX0 for communication with the mega. USB is connected to the CC2540 chip, the at least this serial board will show up with a different VID/PID. If the CC2540 has a pass through function it might be sufficient to add the new VID/PID in the mega json file.

But it concerns me that an own flash tool is provided. Not sure if this is always required and if the "pass through" function (if available) is always active. RX0 and TX0 is required to communicate with the connector.

Regards

Ralf
