First of all: A huge "thank you" to the whole team of MobiFlight. What a great software for flight simulator enthusiasts.
And here it is: My first project using MobiFlight.
I've seen quite a lot of impressive panels: Simulating a GA cockpit, a Jet autopilot panel and much more. But when living in a small flat like me and if you have to share the desk between home office and flight simulator, there isn't enough room for something like that. Hence i built up a multi panel with display, a menu selector and two double rotary switches.
The single rotary selects the menu level. At the moment there are 6 levels for
- Radio stack 1 (COM and NAV)
- Radio stack 2 (COM and NAV)
- Altimeter calibration, heading bug, OBS1 and OBS 2
- Garmin GNS 530 control and map zoom
- ADF1 and 2 frequencies
- Transponder
Radio stack
There is nothing very special on the radio stacks. They show the active and standby frequencies for COM and NAV. The equal signs were added as a hint, where to look at for changes. When rotating the COM decimal places i used the
fast settings for the inputs, to change the decimal places faster.
Standard settings
The most used standard settings were added to the next menu: Altimeter calibration, heading bug, OBS1 and 2 courses.
Fast settings were used here as well to have a faster setting of the desired values.
Garmin GNS 530 control
To use the (beloved) GNS 530 I added this screen. The upper double rotary is bount to the right double rotary of the Garmin. The lower one inner knob is bount to zoom in/out, the button press to
enter key of the garmin.
ADF frequencies
Next are the settings for the ADF frequencies. Because the MSFS has events for the hundreths, tenths and ones i used the roaries like this: The outer rotary will change the hundredths, the inner rotary will as default change the tenths. When the button is pressed, the ones are change. To indicate which setting is active the changed digit is highlighted by a
^- or
-^.
Transponder
The transponder is used like this: The outer rotary changes the selected digit, the inner will change the digit itself. Again, like for the ADF, the active number is highlighted by a
^ sign.
Case
For the case i bought a panel made of plastics. But I'm not satisfied with this case, it's kind of ugly. I will change it to a wooden one using a laser cutter. For this solution the knobs will be aligned better (hopefully
).
For the connection i found such a plug. On its inside there is a USB A connector, on the outside a USB B connector.
This was the first project. The next one will be a button/switch box for battery, alternators and light.
