I plan to power 14 led lights (indicator lights for gear down, lights, etc.), and want to use 12V leds of 10 mm.

Now, I have learned through Googling that I can power a 12V light with an external source, then use either a relay or a MOSFET to switch them on and off via the 5V Arduino.

Question is, do I need a separate relay for each and every light thus controlled ??

Thanks in advance,
Francois

As long as every single LED should be controllable indipendend, yes, you would need one "power swtich" for each LED.

Dependend on the current of the LED (typically 80 to 100mA) a normal BC547 is enough, you won't need a relais or a MosFet.

If you plan to switch more than one LED together on / off, it could be necessary to go with the BD139 (max 1A).
