In Arduino MEGA board there is 53 pins for digital

i see that there is a 40 pin limit but doesn't understand what kind of connection is limited to 40.

and if i connect a external power supply can i use all the 53 pins?

this limitation is for each board?

because i'm making a full illumination of PMDG 737 overhead and MIP, and i'm going to need more than 150 led commands.

Yes
You can use 10 piece Arduino
I did overheat I Use For Overhead 3 piece Arduino And I make MCP & EFIS 2 more Arduino Total 5 Arduino.

After 9 Arduino's boards i have all the switches and LED's on FWD-OVH, AFT-OVH and the MIP working.

There is a limit of Arduino's boards that Mobiflight can manage?

As we are going to the pedestal and central stack we gonna need another 10 boards at least to complete the project.

I have have a great question about pin limitations.

the 40 pin limit is for each kind of connection or is a total limit, will make examples to help you understand and reply me:

As arduino have 51 free to use digital pins:

Ex.1 Can i connect 40 Button types and the other 11 per board as LED outputs?

Or even make a mix that just don't get over 40 pins with the same type of input or output?

Sorry if this are dumb questions, but as all this Mobiflight and Arduino stuff are new to me and i don't speak german, maybe the translation to english by Google made me lost some info.

EDIT: I saw the FAQ and it's possible to use up to 127 boards so, a lot of work to come.
