I've spent the last week learning MF. Some successes, some failures. The biggest problem right now is trying to set up an airspeed indicator for the A2A.C172

I set up the hardware connections exactly like the tutorial. My problem is setting up the stepper in Extras/Settings/Modules. I enter 7 for pins 1 and 2 and 6 for pins 3 and 4, manually entering them in the boxes. Then I Save the configuration. When I check the mfmc file, the configuration has not been saved. The pins are still assigned to 2,3,8,10. I would expect this file to show 7,7,6,6.

I tried modifying the mfmc file, saving it, then Loading the configuration. The pin assignments for the stepper still reflect the default 2,3,8,10.

Also, if I manually enter them in the MF boxes, switch to a different device, then switch back to the stepper, the values change back to the default.

I'm using offset 02BC. Transform is $/128. The Output matches the actual airspeed shown in the FSX panel so everything seems to be working except it won't drive the stepper.

I'm concerned that somehow I'm not correctly entering the pin assignments so they are not being used or saved.

I appreciate any help on this.

Hi Eric,

did you start MF in Admin mode? Try it.
Often it is a problem when MF or the sim is installed in protected folders (protected by windows) and you run these programs in the normal user mode.Then you can not save files as normal user only as admin.
When starting as admin the issues are solved.

Hi

Tthis need some investigation.... We need to test.

In the last 2-4 releases Sebastian fix some stuff in the Device Settings Logic.
The target is to Prevent casual users for doing something wrong.... Like select a Pin that is still in use, or also to be more comfortable and only see the "free" Pins in the Dropdown.

I think in that case this "old" feature is gone. Selecting the Pins "double" for the easydriver was just a "tricky use of a bug" , and not planed by Mobiflight itself.
So the "protection" we include as explaned above NOW also block you from using this double selections by hand ( whatever you want them )

If i find some time i will check this..... You pretty sure also can do this. Simply load for testing a older MF Version ( e.g. 7.4) and try out. I would say it work THERE but no longer in newest release !
Good Luck !

No joy, Stephan. Same symptoms as my original post. It saves the mfmc file as indicated by the timestamp in File Explorer, but the pin assignments remain as 2,3,8,10.

Just to be sure a Save was performed, I changed the pin assignment for a switch in the same module, and the pin assignments for the stepper. The switch pin assignment was properly saved, but the stepper returned to 2,3,8,10.

I'm going to try pizman82's suggestion to experiment with an earlier version. I'll do that later this afternoon.

Thanks to both for the rapid response.

Unable to find any version earlier than 8.02 (on bitbucket). I can find detailed version histories, but no code to download.

Maybe I just don't know where to look!

Ha ha. I have plenty of other things I can do in the mean time. I'm not in any hurry now that it doesn't seem to be something stupid that I'm doing. I appreciate you looking into it, pizman.

Hi

Testing is finished.....

1. I can Confirm the situation..... and i also can confirm the situation happen in exact the reason i expect.
I not remember when this "feature" was implement.... but i also think it was possible in the past may 2-3 Years ago.

2. I can offer you a solution!
The "Protection" is only in the GUI.... You can BEAT it by editing a MFMC File .

How to do:
Open MF, Create the Motor in Settings/MobiflightModules ...... and remain the preselected Pins.... e.g. Pins 2,3,8,10. in your example (No mater what Pins are used a.t.m.) !
Then Use SAVE MFMC ..... To Create the Backup Setting File.
Now Close MF and open the File with a Text Editor......

****
Example from a file on my Computer:

iconQuote:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Config xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<ModuleName />
<PowerSavingTime>600</PowerSavingTime>
<Stepper Name="Stepper" Pin1="2" Pin2="3" Pin3="4" Pin4="5" BtnPin="9" />
</Config>

Then REWORK it as you need it and SAVE it after you do that.....

iconQuote:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Config xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<ModuleName />
<PowerSavingTime>600</PowerSavingTime>
<Stepper Name="Stepper" Pin1="7" Pin2="7" Pin3="6" Pin4="6" BtnPin="9" />
</Config>

Finally..... Open MF ..... Go into Settings and to your Mega..... Klick on LOAD and select the reworked file...... And click on UPLOAD ( without change or open the Stepper config.)
Then it "tricky" upload the data as expected. So we "kidding" the GUI!
Good Luck !

Thanks, Pizman. I actually did that and described it in Msg 23388 above in answer to Stephan.
However, the TRICK is what you say here:

" And click on UPLOAD ( without change or open the Stepper config.)"

As soon as you open the Stepper config, it returns to the original.
If you don't touch it, it stays 7,7,6,6. Good work and thanks.
