New user here, and I'm very very happy so far. Just experimenting, but I am planning a "737-Classic-ish" MCP, using MobiFlight for Encoders, LED's, 7 Segs and buttons.
I have 2 other sims, and at least one of them is going to get a MobiFlight retrofit with 7 segments and encoders!

I have a problem with Daisy Chained 7 Seg modules. I have some of these:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/262194368327?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Which I have hooked up to pins 22,24 and 26 on my Arduino. The first display module is working fine, the second doesn't display anything, and on power on comes up as "8.8.8.8.8.8.8.8."
I have 2 devices setup in MobiFlight Connector, one for each 7 Seg module, set as display 1 and 2... I am guessing I've missed something :)
My next step is to swap out the second display, to make sure it's not faulty.

Thanks again for a great **GREAT** product! <donation inbound>

Hi Sean,

welcome to the MobiFlight forums! Glad to hear that it seems promising to you.

If you daisy chain the modules then you only configure one module in the settings dialogue and make sure to select "2" for the number of modules.
That means you have three pins that are connected with the first module. From this module lines go to the next module. The second module is not connected to the MobiFlight board at all.
Have a great day!
Sebastian

Wow... ok, so that was easier than I thought... I was obviously over-thinking it!

Thanks so much for the help :)

Update... changed the LedModule setup to "2 modules", still no luck. I'll try another module and see if that fixes it :(

Check your cables to have good contact and make sure the correct order of the pins.
First make only one module work to ensure correct wiring and config in MobiFlight Connector and then go for the second module. To add a second module it is really only changing num of modules from 1 to 2 and of course upload the new config.:P
Have a great day!

Hi

i got the same problem !

The chinese boards (the kind i got) have contact holes thats a liitle to big. When i made a test with jumper wires i get the explaned situation. ALL Numbers light 888888 and chage brightness all the time. That results from wrong High/Low Errors in case of contact faults.
(Looks like a test function when a special pin is Low all the time. With no fixed Pins that will be simulated maby)

Yust solder youre pins with much of tin in the holes so they´re realy fixed. After that all Max7219 Boards workes fine for me.

AND:

I realise that there is a problem when you setup a Display while the MFConector is still running. (Or when you Romove one)
After seting a Display on the Arduino i need to restart Mobiflight complete ( Not Start/Stop.... Realy Close the Programm in Windows)
After Restart the Display works fine !
Good Luck !

After months of no sim activity I got back to Mobi-Flight and sorted my problem with the daisy chain.... I was one faulty 7 seg module! Replaced it with another from the same batch, now it works perfectly....

These were cheap Chinese modules, so one failure is not too terrible :)

before i made fezz radio panel whit arduino what use max 7219 and can chain i2c line all together, has same proplem, but jimsnl page many has same proplem and help, all 7-segment need adding in own power supply because arduino board NOT can give out more power than only one 7-segment, you must adding about 1-2 amp power 5 volt to ewery 7-segment own power in, whit diode and condensator have better. then all segment can working good. and code need mark ewery module number 1,2,3,4,5,6 all connect chain 1in and out to 2 in and out to 3 in etc.data go chain, but proplem has power not go chain arduino not can take out lot power.
