Kaspersky Anti-Virus detects MobiflightConnector v.8.exe as a Trojan

Same here and I can't find a way to overcome this

I not understand why we always get these reports.
All the thematic is explaned multiple times in lot of topics and in Discord.

We know our Mobiflight not include a Virus. If you basicly not trust in our work then simply not use it. I know this sounds arrogant, but it´s a fact.
If i get a Email from a stranger.... So also from a Mobiflight User i not talk to until now, i would never open a attached file.
But if i get a Mail from a Friend like Stephan and the Mail include a File called "trojan.exe" .... I would not think about and click it. Cause i simply trust into him .

About the Problem:

Antivir Software is designed to protect Newbee Users. So people who have absolutly no experience with computers. Means its build to protect from nearly everthing that "can" be dangarous. And sure the tool to disabled the savety temporary is verry hidden to protect a normal user to use itt by a missstake.
BUT.... Normaly every Software got something like a "WhiteList" ... Means you can by hand allow a special File or a File from a special source ( Like all from Mobiflight.com) to work.
You can also decleare a special folder or Harddisk to be out of the scanning. So a installation e.g. on "D:/" will not be removed .

Sorry but if up to version 8 installation was no problem and now we get all kind of warning, form cloud to files it will ring bells !
It is not strange that we are careful than, even you program could be injected by a virus.

Here's why you're getting the reports:

The problem here isn't trust, it's the inability to get MobiFlight as anything but a double-nested self-extracting-archive. It's frustrating to have to disable multiple levels of protection on PCs (and isn't even possible on for some) every time there is new release. If it was possible to add a simple .zip or .rar archive download to new versions, I could install manually without jumping through hoops and triggering warnings. It would also make it easier to test new versions by installing in different directories.

So, the anti-virus issue is *not* with MobiFlight.exe, but rather with MobiFlight.exe being put inside MobiFlight-Updater.exe being put inside MobiFlightSetup-%VERSION%.exe

Anti-virus sees this multi-nested sfx technique as a common way to distribute viruses, or more accurately, a technique that used to be common to distribute viruses to try to avoid AV detection.

Could we please get an option to download MobiFlight as a zip or rar and not as an updater and setup .exe?

Now we come into a new level.

Instad of always "mimimi i have a virus warning" we now have a suggestion !

Here Sebastian must act.... Cause i can not comment this in case i not use a AntiVir Protection for many years ( Belive it or not. I not need this stuff and work with computers every day).
Is the information correct with the ZIP File ? ..... If a Virus Scanner work logical it should also alleart if i download a packed File that include a EXE. Doesn´t it ??

Whatever... In a part your Idea is still posible. You can Download a Version also by hand ( Using the Download Link) . If you rework the link you can load also older Versions.
Sure.... The Link still give you the Self Extracting EXE..... But with this methode you be able to install the file in a directory of your choice and NOT update/overwrite the current installation.


Summary:
I know from lots of meetings, that Sebastian got the main idea that MF must be Autoupdating.... So can MF open a ZIP automaticly without a programm like 7Zip, WinRar ??
Whatever.... THIS can be a alternate. So Autoupdate work like today with the EXE..... But User with problems additional get a Link with a Zip File to do updates by hand !

Virus false positive problem is solved with the last beta -> 8.0.1.1
