Hi there,
my 7 segments suddenly stop working properly.
Example: COM1; First it shows correctly m, then when I turn in a different frequency it shows something right up to no more s. The display only comes on again after a restart.
It seems to me that it's getting worse and worse when I've finished another module in the pedestal. I have not made a chain and there are about 2 Max7219 modules on an Arduino.
Could it be that my USB HUB is overloaded?
Greeting
Klaus

Hi Klaus,

the 7219 is relatively sensitive. So if you have strong inductive Units in your power net it may happen that a voltage peak the 7219 brings out of step. Also other peaks in the power line may cause this.

If the USB-Hub may be overloaded can ot be said from here. That depends on all devices you have connected, not only the 7219 modules. What's about steppers or servos?
A USb-Hub with 10 connectors normally have a power supply with 5V and 3,5A. To check an overload you can connect one mega-module directly to an USB slot at your PC and look, what happens.Maybe that you have to split the connected devices. Look for devices with a high current consumption and connect them to another Hub or connector.
The specification for USB says that you can load up to 500mA for each connected device also on a Hub. Try it out.
I operate two chains with 14 modules (8+6) with the max7219 on one Mega-module and have no problems with the power.

Stephan (Time: UTC+2)
