I have received white 7 segment display modules. 4-bit and 2-bit. I want to use them on the green pcb MAX7219 with the sockets but the 2-bit display is all garbled. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get them to display correctly.....

Thank you...

Yes, sorry I always write that for digits..... anyway I have the datasheets for both parts. I can get the 4 digit working on the green board as it plugs into the socket just fine but the 2 digit one looks garbled....

AT FIRST !!!! The linked Displays will NOT work !
The Discription said these are common ANODE ! Max7219 Chips only support Common CATHODE Displays !

About Connection: You mean the 2 Diggit Display not be compatible with the empty Pin Connectors on the Tube.... right ?

Thats logical.
A 4 Diggit Display use 12 Pins ( 7Seg+1DP+4Cathodes) ..... The 2 Digit Display logical use only 10 Pins ( 2 Cathodes less, cause it only have 2 Diggits instead of 4)
Its just Lucky that the 4 Diggit is compatible to your Max7219 Tube..... Also 4 Diggits can have a different Pin Layout!

The solution is..... We normaly NOT connect the Displays to those Tubes directly cause we not want the "controller" directly behind the Display.
We remove the original ones and then we make a wire from The Tube ( somewhere behind the panel near the Mega) to the Display itself that is mount into the Front Panel.
In easy words... You solder 10 wires to the Pins of the 2 Diggit Display..... And you solder the other side into the empty Max Tube to the needed Pins. Sure you can also use a connector or so.

Check this Video from Carl ..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPKrnKUcAxc
Sure he work verry advanced and build a "Max Bay" . thats maybe to difficult. I just want to show you the main logic.
Good Luck !
