I am having difficulty chaining my 7-Segment Displays.

I can have one running no problem. However if I set up more than one either chained or with 3 new connections to the Ardiuno Board I cannot get them to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Harold Darner

Hi

This make no sense..... If it not work ( whatever via chain or as a single device) then only 2 possible issues.....

1. Display is Broke. Or better the Max7219 Chip is Broke.
Broke means not directly its physical broke.... Maybe your connections are not correct solder or so.
In easy words a HARDWARE issue.

To test this... Simply connect the currently running Display for testing to the 3 new Pins you like to set the new one.
If it work there, too BUT the new one will not.... then the Problem is the Display !

2, Software issue.
I not see how you create the new Device and if you use the settings in the Config itself correctly.
So sure... This can be a issue by yourself, too !

******************
To solve....
Try to figure out the Problem.
Test the second Display in same way like the first taht is working already. Confirm it work at first !
Good Luck !

What puzzles me is that I have swapped and the displays work. However when I chain them the 1st is blank and the 2nd works.

Well I learned that I need to direct solder and not use jumpers.

Hi, i also had the same problem with display chain at beginning. I solved by wiring the 5V (Vcc) for each display board and not only at the first and after using the wires bridge to the second one. Also I bridge only the three signals wires and connect 5V (Vcc) individually.

I hope this could help You.
Bye
