I am a bit confused when it comes to "poles" in rotary switches.

I am making an A320, and I am currently making the engine control panel. The starter switch (crank, norm, start) will obviously require 3 positions. Everywhere I look though seems to mention something about "poles". Is there any difference when it comes to wiring or compatibility with Mobiflight?

Would something like this work?

For reference, here is the panel:

Thank you! :)

Normaly we not need the "Multi Poles" . Only in some advanced Builds we like to coordinate 2 different things with one switch ( e.g to cut power of a Motor and also set a command in the sim)

Basicly there exist 2 kind of rotarys we use for cockpits.... 30° and 45° . Means 8 Pos or 12 Pos Switches.
The Number of Poles is just a rework of this stzandard switches by the companys.

So your 3Pos 4 Pole Switch is basicly the same housing and mechanic like a 12 Pos 1 Pole switch. You can turn it also 12 positions ( the limmit to 3 is just a little notch screw you can use or not ). The "difference" here is that they combine 4 lines together inside the switch.
Means Lines 1,4,7,10 are combined.... Line 2,5,8,11 are combined.... and Line 3,6,9,12 are combined.
Also Means whatver your switch is in Pos 1,4,7 or 10 ( as i said it till have 12 positions) the Switch will do absolutly the SAME !

Solution:
1. Check what angle you need. On Picture this is a 60° movement.... So you need a 30° Switch with a rework of the not needed notch. ( By glue it or maybe by a Cogwheel 2:1) .
You can also use a 45 Switch but then the Knob showes not perectly to the Position left and right. And yes. You can also use a 30° switch without change the notch. Then it also not directed fully left/right and only move 30° in that case.

2. You wil use a 12 or 8 Pos Switch ( 1 Pole) at all time. Simply block the Moving with the screw that is included. And finaly just solder the contacts you need and ignore the others.
Good Luck !
