Hi,
could anyone help me to found the dual shaft encoders with switch for the radios ?
I need three of them for COM1, NAV1 and Trasponder used by simulator via Mobiflight and I'm not able to find after a lot of searches.
If possible not from China (I live in Italy) and finally not expensive.
Thanks in advance.

I did a bunch of research on this and gave up, settling instead for using regular single shaft encoders with a built in button. I map the button push to toggle between the knob controlling MHz and KHz.

The other option is to make your own from two single shaft encoders: https://flyingforfun.weebly.com/cessna-172-cockpit.html/#Encoders

Hi, thanks for suggestion. Last days I just read your diy encoder and a lot of compliments for your solution.

I will try to wait for a forum suggestion or I will proceed with the two separate encoders for each radio.

Buona serata Pilota57

In short words.... You got a "contradiction"

iconpilota57:

Thats not possible.... German / Europe or US products are expensive.... China is cheap. Cheap and non China in electronics is pretty not possible in 99%.

*****************

Solution:
1. More expensive Products. Mostly from Cockpitbuilder Shops..... Maybe 5-20 US$ per Encoder.
2. china Products ( Normaly no Problem. Longer deliver time but quality is OK.... Will say 95% of Cockpitbuilders work fully with china parts.
3. Improvisional Build with one Encoder an Push button So Toggle in Software between 2 ( or more) modes by pressing the Button. Not real but useable and cheap.
4. Build a Dual Encoder from 2 Single Encoders. With a CNC Machine this is possible. Also with just a driller but then its not so perfect.
Most cheap but also most advanced methode. Whatever usefull cause if you need a Dual Encoder/Rotaryswitch Combo like in EFIS and MCP you will not find a preamde switch below 200US$.... Here you neet do build it yourself. so it´s a good training to check this aout here already.

Look at this for better understanding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gWlScd0qms
Good Luck !

Hi Pizman and thanks for suggestions.

I completelly agree with your China considerations but the shipping times are very long for me.

Today i received three Alps dual encoders (as described) from Germany via Ebay but, unfortunatelly are with one encoder and the large shaft with two directions switch. Fortunatelly it is possible to return.

Also I found the correct Alps code and this is avaiable at Farnell store for 50 € for 3 pieces including shipment.

I'm not able to made myself by hand the encoders (i'm a retired information technology engeneer) and pilot for fun.

Thanks again for your attention and for Super support.

Bye
