Hi everyone,

Any ideas on how to do the + symbol found for the V/S selection for the Airbus FCU?

Hope to get some ideas here thanks!

Hi jensen,

like in real life it is not necessary to use the plus sign on displays. Every unsigned value is positive, otherwise you can use the "-".

The display, you show on the picture is an LCD-like-Display where the symbols are "build in".

Hi
In a 7 seg Display a "+" Symbol is simply not possible cause there are no Segments on that position.

A 14 Seg Display will allow that.... OR a Special Display with a additional + Symbol.
In both cases Mobiflight can not directly controll it.... Cause we can just controll 7 Seg Displays via Max7219

BUT.... You can technical define a LED Output and say something like " If Value is Possitive (+ Sign is needed) THEN "1" ELSE "0" .
So this Output is HIGH if "+" Sign should be shown and LOW if it should be blank.
Now you wire the specific Pins of a 14 SEG display or a "special" Display with Plus-Sign included to this Pin ( check for resistor !!!! ) then it work fine.

A other alternate is to use LCD Displays instead of 7 SEG ..... Here you can show all 255 ASCII Signs..... Including the + symbol !
Good Luck !

Some displays actually come with a plus symbol as a special character instead of a digit, there are also displays that have a “:” colon between digits to use it for a clock.

How do you drive this particular display that you are showing on the picture?
Have a great day!
Sebastian

i think this is just a example picture from a homepage.

Another alternate is to work extremly "oldschool".

Do you have a CNC machine or a laser engraver ??

Technical you can paint a pice of (milky) plexiglass ( in size of the whole display you show on picture) with a neutral color like grey or black.
An areas you need real 7 seg Displays you make holes in the glass so you can glue/mount the Displays from Behind.
All Areas that need to show "text" like the "+" Sign or the words like ALT, HAD, VS and so on will be engraved. Behind this areas you set a lowcurrent LED in same color like 7 Segment Display) Important is you must cover the LED ( black acryl color hotglue e.g.) so the Light still is shown in this little area you need it.

Finaly you can controll this LED´s ..... If VS is in positive range and "+" should be show this specific LED is light by mobiflight...... And you see the engraved "+" iluminated finaly.

If you like a full sodtware solution on a display mobiflight can not help you. Displays like on the picture are pixel Displays..... So you need a Software that will write the Characters and also the Numbers in different sizes and so on...... Mobiflight just support 7Seg and simple 1,2,4 line LCD Displays..... But no custom Displays.
Good Luck !
