Hi, I'm configuring a new GNS530 device in FSX. I've got all the buttons configured except two, and I'm hoping someone here can help.

The buttons are:
GPS Power on/off toggle
COM/VOR tuning swap (center button on the left dual encoder.

For the Power button, I've tried the event that comes up in the pull down for GPS_POWER_BUTTON, 66602 but that doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,

there's an easy way to get the things you need out of FSUIPC:

Start the FSX, go to the menu ADDON, click FSUIPC and select the tab LOGGING there.
There you put the hook on EVENTS and OUTPUT IN CONSOLE WINDOW and click on OK.

It opens the console window and shows you all events with the parameters there.

Now load the plane with the GNS530, if you have not already done so and use the GPS POWER on / off button with the mouse. In the console window you will now see the EventID, its name and the corresponding parameter. You can transfer these values to Mobiflight.

To close the console window, go back to the menu and uncheck the hooks and exit FSUIPC with OK.

This gives you the values you need.

Thanks, Stephan. I was tinkering with The FSUIPC logging interface, I was able get a log saved, but didn’t try the console. I will do that. The logs I was able to create didn’t have an entry for these events. But I may have done something wrong. Seems like a live console will be more informative. Will it matter which gns530 I’m using? I’m using freeware software from FS2x.com.

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,

I took a look into the XML-sources of the GPS530. Because there are no special events defined it should use the standard ones of FSX. So you have a surface which uses the original events/offsets of FSX. Insofar it doen't matter which GNS530 you use.

The main purpose of the FSUIPC console is not to store logs, but to find out which events are triggered when certain buttons are pressed on the surface. The results can then be used for Mobiflight.

The problem with any software is just to get out where it starts, how it works and how to get to the data usage. The FSUIPC console is just a very nice tool that can help you with that.

Still much success!

Ok I got the console up and was getting feed back from FSX. All buttons gave feedback except for these two buttons. There is nothing in the console when I click on them in FSX.

Maybe I should try a different GNS530 panel from a different vendor?

Dave,

where do you start testing and where do you stop. This can become a neverending story.
Go to fs2x.com in the local forum and post there your problem. If one of them can help, then Don Kuhn, who developed the GPS or someone who has already implemented it.

It is clear that there must be an event that is not documented, but is usable. It is also clear that it is not an event in the traditional sense, but somehow the whole thing is solved internally. It's just the question of whether this little "secret" will be released.

Should you try another panel, I would clarify that beforehand, especially if it costs money.
